The Barlows are a couple who feel deeply burdened to help children who have been abused or abandoned in El Salvador. Trevor is originally from Madison Wisconsin and surrendered his life to Jesus at the age of 25. Jesus transformed a life full of alcohol, drugs and emptiness into a servant of the Living God. After growing in his relationship and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, Trevor was sent to El Salvador as part of a missionary training program in 2010. On his 8th day in El Salvador, he cut his knee tendon and through this injury, he met his Salvadorean wife Erika. She was raised in church and got saved as a teenager. She served the Lord in the children’s ministry of affiliate churches in the rural areas of El Salvador. They got married in Dec 2010 and are now parents to Theophilus , Esther and Levi.
From 2010-2016, we had the opportunity to minister and learn in various privately run orphanages in El Salvador, and in the last one, we were house parents to the boy’s house. The trauma and abuse caused to the children at such an early age is heart breaking and the pain and hurt in their hearts is overwhelming. It is only by the healing love of Jesus that they can close those wounds.
In 2016 the Lord laid a vision in our hearts, where instead of a family moving into an orphanage, the vulnerable child would move into an already functional Christian family. We have acknowledged the importance of Biblical discipleship and family structure in the healing process in a wounded heart of an abused or abandoned child. We are grateful to be the Lord’s instruments to provide these two, through Healing Love Ministries. You can learn more about the what/why/when/how here.
