Our Temporary Families

The Zepeda Family

Diana and Miguel have known each other since 6th grade, but lost contact after high school. Miguel started to enjoy a successful career but there was an emptiness in his heart that grew louder but some friends invited him to study the Bible and he was then confronted with the
need of a relationship with Jesus surrendering his life to Him in Feb 2012. On her side Diana was
also having a successful career away from home that revealed an unmet spiritual need so in
2015 she began an intentional search for genuine connection with God. Some friends invited
her to youth groups and it was there when she surrendered her life to Jesus as her savior in 2016. At youth group she reunited with Miguel and they got married in February 2020.

We met them in February 2021 when they thought they didn’t have time for parenthood, but they were moved powerfully by God first individually and then as a couple to become foster parents. In Feb 2022, they welcomed a pair of siblings in their home, a little girl 3yrs old and her little brother 18months. However, this was an emergency placement and they were shortly reunited with a biological aunt…it was hard to say goodbye. Once again they opened their home and received a 23days old baby girl in June of 2022 and they have now adopted her.

The Lopez Family

Doris grew up in a Christian home and her family was involved in evangelism ministry. Through family devotionals as a teenager, she surrendered her life and got baptized in 2001. She continued to walk with the Lord and got involved in Children’s Ministry and evangelism by 2005. When she reached the University she attended Bible studies on campus an youth group at church. It is here where she met Mario who was also raised in a Christian home. Mario came to know the Lord as a teenager too and kept growing in his faith while attending youth group and eventually leading it. Mario and Doris got married in 2018 and with this new chapter in life they starting attending marriage groups. In 2020 they welcomed their son Mario Andre into their family and he is now 4 years old. Having a baby during the pandemic was challenging but God was faithful through it all.

We met them in February 2023 and they expressed their desire to become temporary parents so they turned in all their documents to the government and went through their training program until they became certified foster parents. In February 2024 they welcomed a 4 month baby into their home who they have been loving as their own since then. He is now 7 months. He is now 2 years old and thriving
as he tries to catch up with his brother!

The Figueroa Family

Patty had been to church when she was 8, but when her parents got divorced she felt abandoned and seek God as her Father. At a youth camp she surrendered her life to the Lord and committed to serve him. Since then, she’s been completing discipleship programs and currently taking Biblical counseling courses at the university. Luis was also taken to church when he was a kid by his mom but when he became a teenager he realized he was a “Sunday Christian.” He was confronted by his worship leader who didn’t only teach him music, but discipled him and at age 17 he surrendered his life to Jesus. In 2010 he met Patty at a youth retreat and her commitment to the Lord gave him assurance that she was the one with whom he would spend the rest of his life! For many years they have been serving together in the youth ministry and recently relocated north of the capital, where they plan to continue serving. They have received in their home a newborn baby girl, and we’re helping them with doctor’s visits. “Patty and I know from experience how valuable it is to know God from childhood. That’s why we want to serve as foster parents: to give them the opportunity to hear about Christ’s love early in their lives.” — Luis Figueroa.

The Garcia Family

Rafael grew up in a Christian home and
was always being pointed to Christ by
his family. However, it was during his
Senior year at an Easter devotional that
he recognized his need for a savior and
he surrendered his life to Christ.
Monica was greatly influenced by her
mother’s testimony of faith as a child.
She met Rafael and when they got
married, they looked for a place to
grow in their relationship with the
Lord. In 2021 they found Vida Nueva
Church and have gone through their
discipleship program CRECE and are
now actively serving in the church.
They recently found out that Monica is
pregnant and they will be welcoming
their first biological baby in January
2026! They’ll be waiting for the arrival
of their baby to the open their home to
a vulnerable child.
